Why plant calcium?
Plant versus rock: Your current calcium supplement is probably either inorganic or laboratory-made. By far the most common form of calcium in supplements is carbonate, which is limestone – a rock. AlgaeCal® is wild-harvested and derived from a South American marine red algae called Lithothamnion superpositum. This algae belongs to the Algas calcareas family of algaes.

Clinical evidence to support the use of AlgaeCal®
1. A comparative effectiveness study of bone density changes in women over 40, following three bone health plans containing variations of the same novel plant-sourced calcium, namely AlgaeCal®
The women were monitored with DEXA scans over a year period. Post-menopausal women are expected to lose approximately 1% of bone density per year, with traditional calcium supplements only slowing that rate of loss slightly.
Results of this study however, were extraordinary, as they showed all groups had increased bone density at one year, with the smallest average increase among the 3 groups being 1,3%.

2. Comparative effects of AlgaeCal® vs. two common calcium salts on proliferation and mineralisation in human osteoblast cells
A study comparing effects of AlgaeCal® to those of calcium carbonate and calcium citrate on human osteoblast cells, showed Algae-Cal® having a 7x greater effect on mineralisation and proliferation of these bone building cells, and in addition, AlgaeCal® reduced oxidative stress on a cellular level.
